£8.0072nd (Highlanders) and the 78th (Highlanders) merged in 1881 to form the Seaforth Highlanders which merged with the Camerons and the Gordons to form the Highlanders Regiment in 1994 which became The Highlanders, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland [2 SCOTS] in 2006.
