Description

The regiment was formed in 1798 as the Frome Troop of Cavalry, disbanded in 1802, re-formed in 1803, and has had a continuous existence since then until today as the 93 (North Somerset Yeomanry) Squadron 39 (Skinners) Signal Regiment.  In 1943 it became a unit of the Royal Signals, but was converted in 1947 to mechanised cavalry, and amalgamated in 1956 with the 44th Royal Tank Regiment to form a composite armoured regiment.
THE DRESS of the officer of the North Somerset Yeomanry shown here is remarkable chiefly because it consists of a normal light dragoon uniform with a heavy dragoon helmet. Yeomanry uniforms often show mixtures of this sort, usually owing to a whim of the commanding officer. The black feather plume on the helmet, replacing the more usual horse-hair plume, is particularly striking.
