The Light Brigade 1854

These two magnificent equestrian portraits in silhouette represent regiments that were engaged in the famous charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava on 25th October 1864. They are printed in eight colours on heavy cartridge paper with a fully lined border.

These prints were drawn by John Mollo [1931-2017] who was responsible for our prints of Uniforms of the Royal Navy and Knights of the Middle Ages. Mollo had been a military historian and was an adviser to the director when making the film The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968). He subsequently won an Oscar for costume design of the Star Wars Series and another for Gandhi.

These Prints measure 43 cm wide x 56 cm high (17 “x 22 “). Shown here are photographs which have been carefully corrected to remove most distortion. These are © Hugh Evelyn Crown Prints published in 1969 by © Hugh Evelyn Limited, London; drawn by John Mollo.
